Obituary of Suzanne Marie Hogan

Surrounded by loved ones, Suzanne Marie Hogan died peacefully at home after a 6-year battle with Alzheimer’s on February 16, 2021 at the age of 68. She was born on July 23, 1952 to Frank Castro and Dora Stagnaro Castro. Born and raised in Santa Cruz, Sue graduated from Santa Cruz High School in 1970. This is where she met and fell in love with her high school sweetheart Dean William Hogan. 46 years ago, Sue and Dean were married in Tahoe. She and Dean had the marriage we all dream about. They were truly each other’s best friend.

 

Sue went to work right out of high school for a title insurance company. Dean and Sue had 2 daughters, Jen and Julie. Sue stayed at home with her girls when they were young. She spent her days volunteering at their school, taking walks with friends, helping out neighbors, baking her world-famous pies and sewing the most amazing Halloween costumes. In the 90’s she started working again as a bookkeeper for Mill and Cabinet Co. as well as Hogan & Pinkney Construction. She spent many happy years with these companies.

 

 

Sue had a wonderful family. She had one sister Valerie Burke. She was very close to Val, Val’s husband John and their children. She had 25+ aunts and uncles and countless cousins she spent her time with. She especially looked forward to holidays with the Stagnaro and Hogan families, as well as the annual Castro Family Reunion. Sue had many close friends as well.

 

 

Sue loved going camping, fishing, reading and spending time at their cabin in Twain Harte. One of her and Dean’s favorite places to go fishing was Burney CA. She would spend hours reading in her chair along the banks of the river watching Dean fish. It was her sanctuary.

 

In her most recent years, Sue was better known as Noni. Jen and Mark Ramsey have 3 children, Parker, Braden and Audrey. Julie and Dave Graff have 2 children, Jason and Emily. They were her world. Dean and Sue never missed a baseball, soccer, or basketball game. They spent their weeknights and weekends going from game to game and loved every moment of it. Countless trips to “Noni and Pops” were a highlight for the grandkids. Noni would build puzzles with them, make them pancakes (no matter what time of day it was!), pick oranges and play in the backyard. She was the perfect grandmother.

 

Sue’s family asks that you spend time with your children, grandchildren, friends and family. Take a walk, give a hug and just take time to enjoy each other every day. That is what Sue would wish for you.
