My beloved Professor, I was just looking you up online to send you a message, only to find out that you passed away. I am deeply saddened by this loss. I still have your book Betrayal that you had us read. I would have loved to speak with you one last time. Well guess what, you would love to know that I am now a high school teacher, here in Sunnyvale, California. I teach world history and US history.
I have no other words but shock, like I said I would have loved to speak with you one last time. I was looking you up online to see if there was a way I can call you, I had good news about my own teaching Career. Well you are resting now, and in the hands of God. Sleep in heavenly peace my beloved Professor Dorabji. I’ll see you again when the time is right. Love, Martin Rios (your student who always sat in the front row of your classes) by the way thank you for the B+ and the A- ... I’ll write a better paper for you one day, I promise! All my love professor.

“My Spirit Will Not Haunt the Mound”
Thomas Hardy, 1840 - 1928
My spirit will not haunt the mound
Above my breast,
But travel, memory-possessed,
To where my tremulous being found
Life largest, best.
My phantom-footed shape will go
When nightfall grays
Hither and thither along the ways
I and another used to know
In backward days.
And there you’ll find me, if a jot
You still should care
For me, and for my curious air;
If otherwise, then I shall not,
For you, be there.

I met Elena when I was in 7th grade through my new friendship with Zarine. Elena welcomed me into her home. She was the first person to show me that food could taste good. She recommended a book to me that led me to my spiritual path. She was smart and graceful and fascinating to talk to. I lost touch with her over the years but am who I am, due in part, to her. I feel blessed that I knew her and am so sad to hear of her passing. May she enjoy her adventures in the afterlife as much as she enjoyed her life here.

I taught Political Science with Elena at De Anza College for the past 6 years. I am very saddened by her passing. A passionate fire for social justice and workers rights has gone out in our world.
My thoughts are with you in this time of loss.
I apologize for being unable to attend the funeral and celebration of Elena's life.
Be well,
Robert Ovetz, Ph.D.

My sincere condolences to Elena's family and hope they find comfort in knowing how highly Elena was thought of by so many people. Elena was a dear and supportive friend and colleague. We sat together at the CFA bargaining table many times. We talked about contract issues but in the breaks, we talked about our children and our lives. I will always remember her warmth and good advice.

Elena,
We will miss you. Thank you for your dedicted public service for over forty years in college teaching. I remember your sharp tongue and sharp wit over our many encounters at De Anza College. It always made me smile in appreciation. The adjunct faculty will always be grateful over your willingness to stand up for the voiceless, the marginalized, and those that wished do good with little institutional acknowledgement.
Thank you so much again for your amazing contribution. I will miss your intelligence and communication skills. It was impressive...
Cordially and respectfully,
David Tully
