We knew Harry since1972 when he played music at the Copper House with Don Mc Caslin and we all danced in the streets. He was such a wonderful fun loving bee bop, jazz, rock and roller with great music skills. He had his own sense of off beat rhythm with perfect timing and a swift kick of his leg to accent the beat. We loved him and shared many wonderful stories and music events with him on sax over the years. His sweet sax sounds will not be forgotten. Play on sweet Harry. We love you. Frank and Grace Ann

Nancy and Family,
Harry was such a treasure as met for Bibles and Hymns at Santa Cruz Post Acute on Monday at 2pm. He was always singing in fine form. I especially enjoyed the staff's delight in hearing his soulful voice as they attended their daily tasks.

I love Harry. It wasn't until his passing that I knew of his illustrious past in music and creative endeavors. I knew him from Inner Light Ministries. Every Sunday we would share an embrace. I loved the way he delighted in the music. He emanated love and kindness. I'm glad that he is released from a body that no longer served his great Spirit and I will miss him. Sending him love and prayers for his new journey.

Condolences to all that loved and listened to Harry. Met in 1972 through Don McCaslin and had no idea of his numerous impressive accomplishments! He sat in with many other groups over the years.
Keep on crooning Harry!

Our beloved Jazz Geezers bandleader Don McCaslin informed me last Thursday that Nancy had called him in tears on Friday of the prior week that Harry had passed away. I asked Don if Harry went down hard, or went down easy; of which he was uncertain. It was so nice to read in Sunday's Sentinel that he had died in his sleep which was by definition "easy", for which I am comforted. Although for the rest of us, and especially Nancy, Harry's companion known as "Nurse Nancy", the band Nurse appointed by Don McCaslin during the legendary 38 year run of the band "Warmth", it is especially hard and impossible to fill his void, and for the rest of us, he will remain a part of the band and the memories of which can never be replaced.
I had the pleasure of singing with the band Warmth for the last 12 years of their 38 year run, and listened to Harry's saxophone solos and his vocals hundreds of times over that period and noticed often how his spirit captured the essence of the music and the audience lovingly responding and simply "digging him the most", for he flew the flag of the band in an endearing fashion. I enjoyed our fun loving and often crowd pleasing duets at "Church, at the end of the Capitola Wharf", or at least for me, that was my church, and those perfect days on the roof of the Wharf House were among my most cherished days in Santa Cruz.
And, as is the tradition in Jazz, he would affirm a musical expression of value with a meaningful gesture of a self-clasping handshake. A gesture in which one hand is grasped by the other and held together in front of the body or over the head. In the United States, this gesture is a sign of victory, being made by the winning boxer at the end of a fight. Harry was so gracious in supporting me and my development as a singer for which I will always be grateful.
And may I say that after Harry had stopped his Sax playing, he would drop by on occasion and sing with Don and the Amazing Jazz Geezers (of which he was one) to Severino’s and sing from his wheelchair with excellent intonation and phrasing, and often praising his beloved Nancy with his rendition of "Nancy with the Laughing Face".
After following Harry on vocals for so many years, I would often acknowledge out loud in praise and appreciation… “Harry Woodward ladies and gentlemen, a hard act to follow”
As Duke Ellington would say on behalf of the band and himself we “Love You Madly”.
We love you Harry and hope you can make that gig in the "Big Ballroom"
