Carmen Silveira

Obituary of Carmen F. Silveira

September 20, 1933 – July 29, 2021

79 Year Resident of Santa Cruz

Family and friends will gather on Thursday in Santa Cruz to say farewell to loving mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, Carmen Silveira who passed away peacefully at the age of 87.  Born in Tracy, California, she moved to Santa Cruz with her family when she was 7 years old.  Carmen attended Branciforte Elementary School and graduated from Santa Cruz High School in 1951.

Carmen married Manuel Silveira at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church 1952, and raised her four children here. She will fondly be remembered as a wonderful chaperone to friends and family that would come to visit Santa Cruz. Carmen loved sharing with her children and others all the visitor attractions that were so popular in the 1960’s and early 70’s.  Many stories will continue to be told of the visits to Scotts Valley’s Lost World and Santa’s Village, and in Santa Cruz the Mystery Spot and Boardwalk. Carmen thoroughly enjoyed shopping, gardening and had a profound love for her cats. Her home was her sanctuary & was a great source of joy all the 50+ years she lived there.  She was a long time parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Kandie Silveira, her daughter and son-in-law, Irene and Brett Ritchie, and her son, Richard Silveira.

She also leaves her six grandchildren: Richard Silveira Jr, Scott Silveira, Thomas Silveira, Jacob Ritchie, Christina Silveira, and Tyler Silveira, along with many friends and extended family.  Carmen was preceded in death by her former husband Manuel and her eldest son, Edwin Silveira.

A graveside ceremony will be held at Holy Cross Mausoleum Chapel on Thursday August 5, 2021 beginning at 1:30 p.m.  A kind act of charity can be made in her memory to Hospice of Santa Cruz County & there Live Music Therapy Musicians.
