Obituary of Frank Washington Snell

Frank Washington Snell, Jr. passed away on November 14, 2010 in Santa Cruz, CA. He was born on July 6, 1930 to Frank and Odelle Snell in Birmingham, Alabama. He was 80 years old. Over the years Frank attended Avondale Elementary School, Parker High School, St. Francis Hospital for the RN Program, School of Anesthetist, George Peabody College for Teachers obtaining a MS in Education, and Cambridge University obtaining a MS in Psychology. For over 53 years Frank was an RN and Nurse Anesthetist; he was an OR Nurse/Anesthetist for over 25 years; a professor in Social Sciences for 21 years; he Retired from the U.S. Army after 20 + years; he was also a LTC-Nurse Anesthetist, and a Vietnam Veteran serving as a Nurse Anesthetist in 18 Surgical Hospitals in Quang TRL, PROV, South Vietnam. Frank was a world traveler (two & half times over). During his life he lived in Ohio; New York; Fort Lewis, Washington; Berlin, West Germany; Maryland; Okinawa, Japan; Wurtzburg, West Germany; Fort Ord, California and Santa Cruz, California. He loved Opera, Ballet & Classical Music, and was a very active & ardent supporter of the Arts. He attended the Kaiserball in Vienna, Austria for New Years for 25 years. Frank was an active "Cruiser", and had been on over 15 cruises. He loved meeting new people and inviting friends over for special dinners which he was famous for setting elaborate dining service tables. He was also very interested in learning about and witnessing other world cultures. Frank is survived by his sisters, Regina Snell and Alice Faye S. Parker; his aunt, Sylvia Hooks, and his uncle Ephriam Hooks. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Gwendolyn Snell and his brother, William Snell. A Memorial Service will be held for Frank on Monday, December 6, 2010 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Church (126 High St. in Santa Cruz) with Military Honor Guard. A reception will follow at Holy Cross Hall. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Hartnell College Foundation, directed to Frank W. Snell Endowment Fund, 411 Central Ave., Salinas, CA 93901, that was established in recognition of Frank's 20+ years of teaching social sciences and Ethnic Studies classes at Hartnell College; Cabrillo College Foundation, directed to Frank W. Snell Endowment Fund, 6500 Soquel Dr., Aptos, CA 95003, established in recognition of Frank's 53+ years in anesthesia and health care; or a charity of your choice.
