Obituary of Yoli --- Chavez

Yoli Chavez passed away peacefully with family by her side on October 22nd, 2010. A daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother but known to most as "Grandma Yoli". Yoli was born in Fresno on April 8, 1926 to Italian immigrants Silvio and Elena Moro. At an early age she moved to Davenport with her family. This is where Yoli grew into the woman we all know. Growing up her parents taught her that family comes first and to always work hard. She loved growing up in Davenport. She shared countless memories of her childhood. Riding her horse up the San Vincente, gardening with Papa, cooking with Mama, and playing with her sibilings, Ferd, Freddie and Mary. She later fell in love with a handsome solider. Yoli first met Oscar riding his U.S Calvary horse through town. Yoli and Oscar were married May 1943. They later had 3 children, Elyn, Nancy and John. Oscar and Yoli moved to Southern California briefly, then back to Santa Cruz where they raised their family. Yoli was a devoted mother and wife. In her career as a homemaker she was at the top of her field. Family was most important to her. She raised her three children, Elyn, Nancy, and John three grandchildren J.P, Cece, and Alex and great granddaughter Alana. She didn't stop with family, any children in the neighborhood were always welcome at Yoli's for homemade treats, love and advice. Yoli was very close to her youngest brother Freddie. Growing up they were inseparable. Freddie never stopped his love for his sister. Together they took rides back to old town for a few laughs and good memories as well as trips to Italy and San Francisco. Yoli was a truly amazing woman. Providing for her family and giving more than most. The door was always open and so was her heart. The kitchen is where you could always find her, she loved to cook for her family and friends. Always busy, Yoli was never known to sit down. When she did settle down for the evening, she liked to read. If she ever did have one vice, it was "gossip magazines". In recent years when she finally did slow down and needed an extra hand, she always replied with a thank you and a smile. We could write for hours about Grandma and her wonderful life. Nothing truly comes close to describing the woman she was, the love she gave and how much she will be missed. We will never forget her and the sacrifices she made for her family. A private memorial is scheduled. The family wants to deeply thank her caregiver Rori Perin, Dr Jack Watson, her nurse Susan Bearman, Hospice aides Irma and Solidad , and the entire Santa Cruz Hospices team.
