Obituary of Daniel Jonathon Garr

Prof. Daniel Jonathon Garr Services will be held on Sunday in Santa Cruz for Daniel Garr who passed away on January 11, 2011 following a lengthy illness due to complications he suffered in a boating accident. Born in New York, he was 67 years old. Professor Garr taught in the Urban Planning Department for San Jose State University and his career in education spanned over 30 years. A graduate of Cornell University, he did research in Indonesia and Amsterdam and has resided in the Santa Cruz area for the past 30 years. He loved animals, in particular puppies and cats. He grew beautiful long stem roses at his home. A classical music aficionado, Professor Garr was often heard as D.J of KUSP radio; later recording an album of his own. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Ponza of Santa Cruz, his sister, Vivian Horowitz of San Diego, and a host of colleagues throughout the world that he enjoyed working and researching with. Friends and family will gather to celebrate his life on Sunday, January 16, 2010 at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel in Santa Cruz, beginning at 3 p.m.
