Obituary of Doug Winfrey

Douglas Gail Winfrey, former Traffic and Sports anchor for Good Morning, Monterey Bay, died unexpectedly Nov. 1, at the age of  64.

Easily recognized by his radio voice, Doug reported on the morning commute and local sports on KSCO for 17 years and served as Executive Director and Co-Host of ZBS Network’s Dead Doctors Don’t Lie.

Born in Kansas City, MO on Dec. 16, 1958 to Keith and Peggy Winfrey, Doug earned his degree in Broadcast Management from the University of Kansas in 1983, and began his career in the Kansas City area. During these years, he served as board operator, DJ, anchor, and program & operations director for various shows on KCMO AM, including The Mike Murphy Show.

Doug’s love of the outdoors led him to the Bay Area in 1995, where he enjoyed all the activities the area has to offer, especially hiking with his beloved Weimaraner, Zami. Doug loved to prepare a great meal with friends, and became famous among those who knew him for smoking great barbeque.

Doug is survived by his sister, Terry Thomas (John), nephew Joel Thomas (Liz), and niece Melanie Thomas, great nephews Henry and Samuel, as well as long-time companion Kitty Stouffer, her sons Jesse Duran, Jason, Shawn, Matt, and families.

A Celebration of Life, as well as the scattering of ashes, will be determined at a later date.

Doug will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
